If you stood atop the highest mountain and declared that it was totally impossible to stop smoking, you’d find a lot of people who will agree with you, and a lot of people who will not. The truth is that there are perhaps just as many people who have succeeded in breaking their smoking habits as there are folks who have failed in every attempt. But the truth remains that some people who tried to stop smoking have made it, and so you cannot deny the fact that it is possible.

As a smoker trying to quit, the first thing you have to acknowledge is that the habit is harmful to you, and then that you can actually make it. People might have different capabilities, but you are going to be one of the few people who were able to take their stand against this fatal habit and bring the habit to a screeching halt. Next, you are going to read on along this passage about some simple tips on how to quit smoking, and you are going to try as many of them as you can until you are finally able to quit. And then you can look at your reflection in the mirror and declare that you gave it your best shot, and you made it.

The best way to stop smoking for some people is cold turkey. Sure, believe it; before you try any other technique, you may as well just wake up one morning and determine that you are not going to take another cigarette. There are people, who have done it, and there are people who are still going to do it after today; and if they can, so can you. You simply need to focus on the destruction that the habit is wreaking on your life right now, and then on all the unpleasant benefits of quitting smoking that you can think of. Finally, you are going to have to convince yourself to stay away from the people, places, and activities that used to prompt you to smoke. You never know, you might just make it.

Statistics show that cold turkey smoking cessation works only about thirty to forty percent of the time. If you are going to not make it, you will know by the end of the week that the technique is not working. After that, you may want to try your hands on nicotine replacement products. Most of these products you can get just about anywhere around you and without prescriptions too. Especially the nicotine gum and the patch, most drugstores will just sell them to you over the counter, and some supermarkets have the gum on their aisles. For the spray and the inhaler, you may need prescriptions because then your addiction is likely a lot more critical.

Most smokers are able to quit after staying on the products for a while, but there are bound to be a few outside cases of guys who have tried all of that and nothing is working. In that case, you may need some stop smoking medications and perhaps psychological treatment for smoking cessation. There are a lot of such medications, especially serotonin and dopamine reuptake inhibitors such as bupropoin. And for the psychotherapy, you may have to settle for group sessions and several personal sessions with a psychologist.

And if you still can’t quit this way, what you need may not be in clinical medicine.

You aren’t the first, you aren’t going to be the last, and you definitely are not the only smoker on this planet who is trying to stop smoking. As a matter of fact, around you in the United States alone, millions of smokers all over the country are eager to find new ways and means by which to stop smoking because the ones that they have tried so far have not worked quite well for them. No, you are not alone; and if you know what is good for you, you will reach out for help to stop smoking at the first chance that you get.

You don’t have to look very far for that; all over the internet, and all over the medical landscape, there are several stop smoking centers that can help you break the habit. When you have tried every other option from natural herbs to clinical smoking cessation techniques, to alternative medicine, and any number of stop smoking treatments that you can find on your own, and nothing seems to be working, you are going to have to try the stop smoking centers.

Stop smoking centers are ideal to help you break the fatal habit because they have been in the business long enough to see every kind of case under the sun – well not every kind of case, but most. Admittedly, not everyone who subscribed to a stop smoking center has been able to successfully repeal from tobacco smoking, but you have got to agree with me that they sure have a higher success rate than for people who try to do it by themselves.

Support from stop smoking centers is good for a patient trying to quit smoking because it allows them access to all the facilities at their disposal. Most smokers are treated on outpatient basis, but some chronic situations may require hospitalization. Because there are a lot of other patients in there at various stages of their smoking cessation efforts, you will find that you are not quite as lonely as you feared. You will be able to sit in on group sessions to discuss your condition with others, and learn from them about theirs. Afterward, you will have your time with various specialists who will treat you for the specific kind of addiction that you are suffering from.

Many times, you cannot stop smoking without help from smoking cessation medications. These are drugs necessary for use when you find that you cannot handle the severe withdrawal symptoms of your addiction to nicotine. In such an instance, you may be required to spend a couple of days in a room within the smoking rehabilitation center while you are administered the treatment. Some other doctors and specialists often offer some unconventional treatments to stop smoking that you may find to be very helpful. For the most part, they combine every one of them when the patient’s suffering is extreme, and then they watch for results.

Breaking your smoking habit is a major success, but it is a relatively small achievement compared to staying free from the habit. If you are going to recover fully from smoking, it will pay you to know that it is a very long journey, and one that you can only take one day at a time.

There are a lot of reasons why you can afford to quit smoking, and you really should be conversant with all of them. At least, if you knew what the habit was doing to you, and what it could do for you if you stopped it, you’d have a lot more reason to concentrate on your smoking cessation efforts; perhaps this time you actually will be able to break the habit once and for all.

One benefit of smoking cessation that a lot of people do not readily realize is that it helps them retain disposable income. When you are addicted to smoking, you do not know just how much you are spending each day on sticks or packs of cigarette; nor do you care. But if you sat down and computed the figures, you’d suddenly realize that there was a lot more you could have done with that money, but you are wasting it away by a suicidal habit. Add to that the fact that you are definitely paying higher health insurance premiums than other people who do not smoke, and you will realize that you don’t need the habit. You may want to review it already.

The social stigma associated with smoking is by no means a little thing. In several countries, and in many major cities in the United States, smoking is banned in public spaces and in many private clubs. If some owners even so much as sniff the substance on you, they could turn hostile and you could get thrown out instead. When you quit smoking, admission into social activities and institutions that ban smoking becomes a definite possibility.

As a smoker, you are at an increased risk to contact a number of diseases and infections. Most cancers, for instance, are either caused or largely contributed to by tobacco smoke and the carcinogens in it; and a lot of other diseases easily follow suit. If you were to stop smoking today, your risk of contracting those diseases significantly reduces. For a fact, the longer you stay off of the substance, the better your chances of not catching any of these diseases.

Think about it for a moment; you aren’t the only one at increased risk of disease because of your bad habit. Everybody around you who has to breathe in the air that you have contaminated is also at risk of the very same diseases that are likely to kill you if you continue smoking. People with asthmas too can suddenly lapse into attacks in your environment because cigarette smoke is a known irritant; the same way that a lot of diseases are complicated by it. If you hope to keep your loved ones alive, you will do yourself a favor and stop smoking already.

Expectant mothers who smoke can cause birth defects in their babies, and often increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome in their newborn. If you need an excuse to break the habit, there is no better time than when you are pregnant. By the time you deliver the child, you should be safe enough from the addiction to be able to do without nicotine.

Thankfully, all around you, there are a lot of smoking cessation programs you can try your hand on one after the other, until you are finally cigarette free; it only makes sense that you employ them to save your life and that of your loved ones.

I wouldn’t be so bold as to put the habit of smoking cigarettes or other forms of tobacco down as a disease, but it sure is close to being one. Especially because it is hard to break that inclination once you are hooked on the substance, there are a lot of ways that have been tried in the past with various levels of success. Some people actually have been able to quit smoking cold turkey, but that really is not very common. For the most part, a good number of people who break the habit end up relapsing before too long.

There are so many ways by which people try and/or succeed to stop smoking, but because of the addictiveness of the narcotic, few people will lay claims on any smoking cessation technique as being guaranteed. However, as you keep working, you may want to consider the idea of certain drugs that can help your smoking cessation program. There are more than a few of them and their use is rather sensitive. As a result, you may have to get a prescription from a certified psychologist before you can purchase most of these drugs.

The antidepressant drug bupropin has been in use to help with breaking the smoking habit for quite a while, and its application for that purpose seems to be growing of late. Basically, as its nomenclature suggests, it is used to prevent or reduce depression in patients suffering from that form of despair. It works by regulating the levels of serotonin that are secreted in your system so that your craving for nicotine – the dangerous addictive substance in tobacco – can be greatly lessened. Bupropin is sold under the brand name Zyban in the United States, and no, you will not get it over the counter.

Other drugs block the effect of withdrawal from the chemicals in tobacco and tobacco smoke. Some, like Scopolamine and Atarax, which block the brain nicotine receptors and ease your physical withdrawal pains as you try to stay off of the substance, are applied intravenously for best effect – the Scopolamine Medicated Anticholinergic Receptor Treatment, SMART, has been in use in that capacity for years.

Other types of drugs that help with quit smoking efforts include Chantix and Atropine, and a number of other neurotransmitter drugs. Serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, SNRIs, are mostly also used as depression medications, but they do have some application in helping people to quit smoking, albeit under strict supervision. Drugs like venlafaxine or mirtazapine, which prevent the neurotransmitters serotonin and norephinephrine from binding to nearby nerve cells, have found controversial use in this same department.

Basically, the biggest problem with smoking cessation drugs is the side effects that they have. The chief side effect of such medications is dehydration. Others include nausea, sleeplessness or insomnia, mood alterations, gas, constipation, headaches, allergic rashes, loss of taste, and a number of others. As a result of the severity of some of these symptoms, many physicians actually question the efficacy of these drugs and would much rather have their quit smoking patients on any number of other stop smoking techniques.

But do smoking cessation drugs work? Statistics show that they do. The question is how badly do you want to break the habit? Is it enough to put up with the side effects? Because if it is, you may as well just stay with the program.

There is nothing like a desperate person, and there is hardly anything that could make someone more desperate than the need to quit smoking. It is not so much the difficulty of the effort, but the realization that you are no longer in control of your will enough to tell yourself you aren’t going to take something simply because you said you aren’t going to take it.

People respond to this reality in different ways; most people try to fight it at first because they cannot afford to not be in control, but before long, they cave in and start to look for ways to help them deal with the addiction. For others, it is harder to acknowledge that addiction. Making it harder to deal with it; but there is no shame in admitting that you are a smoker, especially when you realize that it is a problem now and that you need to get help to stop smoking.

Smoking cessation techniques are plentiful all over the United States and the entire world, and the most popular procedures for quitting smoking are not even hard to come about or expensive to undergo. However, their effectiveness depends for a large part on the level of your addiction to nicotine, and on your willpower and desire to stop smoking. One of such methods is laser therapy for quitting smoking. It has of late risen in popularity as a stop smoking technique with incredible potential.

In technical terms, laser is a device that produces and amplifies light. Laser light is pure in color, extremely intense, and can be directed with great accuracy. Lasers are used in many modern technological devices and can generate light beyond the range visible to the human eye, from the infrared through the X-ray range. They have a wide range of medical uses as well; they can cut and cauterize body tissues in a small fraction of a second without damaging surrounding healthy tissues, bore holes in the skull, vaporize lesions, and cauterize blood vessels.

In the their application for treatment in smoking cessation, physicians make use of low level laser therapy or LLLT to ‘caress’ certain portions of your body, such as your back and arms, where nerve endings bundle, causing the secretion of neurotransmitters that give you the same pleasure you get from regular smoking. As a result, you ‘feel’ as though you have had your dose of nicotine for the day and you don’t need it so much anymore.

You may have to sit in for quite a few sessions of the procedure before you can be guaranteed of a successful therapeutic process, but as long as you fulfill them all, you should be able to stay off of the cigarette. There is still considerable controversy concerning the efficiency of this modus operandi as an effective stop smoking treatment, but most patients who have found that it works for them will listen to nothing else. Thankfully, LLLT is not an expensive procedure so that most people can afford to get the treatment.

Already you know that the tobacco smoke is killing you, and your doctor has told you that if you don’t quit smoking already, you’ll be dead inside of one year. The only problem is that this doctor is not the first to break the news to you; for the greater part of ten years, you have been told that time was running out, and at first you defied them, but then the health problems started to increase, and increase, and increase, until you suddenly realized that you could no longer deny their presence.

And since then, you have been trying to break your smoking habit to no avail; for the past three years, you have successfully stopped smoking at least five times, but within a month you were right back at the habit, like a dog back to its vomit, worse than before. Now you are tired of trying and are about to resign yourself to your fate because quitting smoking has become a futile effort for you. Well, you don’t have to worry so much about it anymore, because you just might find your stop smoking solution right here and now.

Perhaps you have been unable to stop smoking because you have been dealing with the disease – that’s right; it’s a disease – the physical way only. Unfortunately, that is far from sufficient when you have gotten addicted to the substances in tobacco. Addiction is both physical and psychological so that it is not enough to just quit smoking cold turkey; chances are that you will return to the substance before long. When you stop smoking, you may need some stop smoking group therapy to help with the psychological addiction to smoking. Talking to others about your smoking problems and listening to theirs will do you a great deal of help.

Added to the psychological stop smoking treatment, you may also want to try a number of drugs that can help you break your smoking habit. Most of these drugs work by helping you bide the severe withdrawal symptoms from tobacco smoking that tend to hit within the second and third days of your quit smoking program. These symptoms include but are not limited to relentless headaches and nausea. Even with the quit smoking drugs like bupropin, sold as Zyban in the United States, you may still have trouble weathering the storm; but without the antidepressant medications to stop smoking, you may as well pack it up because you will not likely get very far trying to stop smoking.

There are a number of other nicotine replacement products in the market that are known to be of great help for quitting smoking. Such products like the nicotine chewing gum, and the nicotine patch, or the nicotine inhaler, are extremely helpful for supplying you with minute doses of the substance all day long so that you don’t even realize that you are doing without it. If you can combine all of these methods, it is a certainty that you are not only going to successfully quit smoking, but you will be better able to stay away from cigarettes in the future.

Substitute your smoking habit for some other habit that is not quite so deadly. You figure, since habits are things you do to occupy your mind, anything that is able to occupy your mind when you feel like smoking is bound to be of some help one way or another. Quitting smoking may not be as hard as you thought.

There are all kinds of ways you can stop smoking; you should be trying them all out. On the internet, you are sure to find more than a few suggestions like these ones you are reading here. Why not try them out too? After all, it’s your life on the line here. Don’t put it off for another minute.

The first step to quitting smoking is to really desire to do it; the second step is to really believe that you can. Once these two major factors are in place, there really is no stopping you. Now all you need is just a little help from the outside. You really can do it. When you feel like smoking, move, do something. If you are able to keep your mind busy enough you will be able to overcome the instinct to light another stick. So why don’t you let’s go about it, one urge at a time.

It is helpful to be able to visualize yourself victorious over smoking. In your bid to quit destructive habit, you have to more than go through the motions; you have to see the end of it. That’s how I did it; I’ pretty certain that you can too. I have heard of some medications you can take that help you quit smoking. Down a pill or two daily as the doctor instructs and every time you take a drag you will get yourself one hell of a headache. Soon your mind will begin to associate the headaches to smoking, and will begin to not want it.

You can quit smoking too, if you tried hard enough, and if you got yourself the best kind of help that you can. Some psychologists know of ways to make you talk yourself out of the habit, and I think that is an idea that you can explore. And if it doesn’t work for you, try something else.

Doctors have various means by which they can help you quit smoking. For some it is not enough to be shown the condition of their lungs via x-ray, but for others it is enough. One they see what damage they are doing to, they cannot bring themselves to do it again. How about that for quitting? There are as many ways to quit smoking as your imagination can conjure up. Even if you have no outside help, you could keep thinking and trying technique after technique. Even if they would not work for others, they might work for you; otherwise, the mere desire to quit could do the magic.

Marijuana – or Mary-J, as it is warmheartedly called by those who are addicted to the substance, is not that different from tobacco when you come to think of it. They are both made from dried leaves and smoking, chewing, and sometimes even sniffing consume them both. Did I mention that they are also both highly addictive and destructive of brain cells? Well, they are.

Whereas tobacco has a soothing effect on those who consume it, Mary-J is a bit more potent because of its hallucinogenic and intoxicating effects on those who try and get hooked. I have seen cigarette smokers’ reform and migrate to marijuana smoking because it makes them ‘high’.

Having been used for several centuries both as an intoxicant and a medication, the control of the substance is a bit difficult because of various beliefs concerning it. While some countries consider it an illegal substance, others think it really isn’t so harmful because it also helps medicinally to improve appetite, prevent the severe weight loss associated with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), and it also reduce the nausea caused by cancer chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Marijuana is also reported to have beneficial effects in treating pain and muscle spasms in patients with multiple sclerosis, causing giddiness and euphoria, followed by sedation and pleasant tranquility.

But then come the negative effects of marijuana, which include confusion, acute panic reactions, anxiety attacks, fear, a sense of helplessness, and loss of self-control. When you get addicted to the substance, the chances are that you will develop a motivational syndrome characterized by passivity, decreased motivation, and preoccupation with taking drugs. With other symptoms like impaired judgment, comprehension, memory, speech, problem-solving ability, reaction time, and driving skills, marijuana addiction can be compared to alcoholism. Smoking the substance can damage your lungs and increase your risk of lung cancer.

You are in luck if you want to break this horrifying habit because marijuana is not physically addicting. For all the above-mentioned effects of the drug, it apparently has no known physical withdrawal symptoms. As a result, discontinuing the use of the substance is very possible and relatively easier than when you are hooked on nicotine. Although psychological dependence develops in a lot of long-term regular users of Mary-J, they can be helped by simple therapy and perhaps some hospitalization.

However, getting help to break a marijuana smoking habit is not all that it takes to quit; you have to determine on your own to abstain. Because it does not draw on your nerves the way nicotine does, it cannot ’cause’ you to come back for more. As such, any return to the use of the substance after quitting is most likely a deliberate act, and one that is not in your best interest. The fact that it is rumored to damage brain cells should be reason enough to make you stop smoking marijuana.

There are all kinds of people in the world today, and they have different capabilities. I for one have heard of various stop smoking techniques that many smokers have to use in the attempt to break the habit, and the most remarkable efforts to stop smoking are certainly those of people who are able to quit smoking cold turkey. Just like that, one night they are smoking and the next morning they are bright and breezy without the nicotine.

I tried it too, a while back when I was still trying to quit, and everybody around me thought I was doing a great job. Most folks that I lived with at the time actually still think that that was the way I was able to stop smoking, but they couldn’t have been more wrong! I was sneaking out at nights to quench my cravings on a hilltop all by myself in the dark. I kept it up like that for about a year, before I finally relocated and was able to smoke in peace all over again.

No, quitting smoking takes a lot of different things out of a lot of different people, and you have just got to face it: people really don’t have the same resistance levels or willpower. And that is why there are so many stop smoking aids all around you to help with your smoking cessation efforts. You may not be a superman, and they may not work for you, but the only way you are ever going to be able to tell is if you try them out.

You may want to begin on the internet: search for ’stop smoking aids’ or ’smoking cessation aids’ online and you are sure to come up with all kinds of products that help you quit smoking. Actually, you will come across perhaps a million links to different websites where aids to stop smoking are peddled at length, and based on whatever criteria is important to you, you can narrow these options down to just a few stop smoking websites.

They offer different techniques for helping you quit smoking, and several different products that do precisely the same thing. If you have been trying to quit for a while and have not been able to, you are free to purchase any of these products and try them first, or else you can settle for the various advices they have to offer on how you will be able to live nicotine free.

Some common stop smoking aids are nicotine replacement products such as chewing gums, nasal spray, inhaler, and the nicotine patch. Other products include books and e-books, online publications, literature, printouts, and even wallpapers and screensavers. Interestingly, the list could go on. You may even find references to professionals around the country with just the kind of experience that will help you in your quest. You may want to call them up and book an appointment, but if you don’t want to, an online consultancy also works.

Again, not everybody can quit smoking in the same way, but absolutely everybody can quit smoking. It’s your call, but if you know what is good for you, you may want to try everything you can get your hands upon. As long as you are not OD-ing on anything, a little overkill never killed anybody.

Every time the urge comes, wait it out. It might sound silly because you aren’t doing anything active per se, but it works almost better than anything else. You would be strengthening your mind if you say no to the habit this way, and I happen to think that is the best way.

People who are addicted to food can turn their backs on it and destroy the bad habit. So why cannot you, who are addicted to something that is actually destructive through and through? Smoking kills even worse than obesity, and you can live well without that. Whatever it costs you to do it, at least preserve your old age by not smoking today.

How about taking a few lessons on what lung cancer looks like? I’d bet if you could see what the long-term effects of smoking can do to you, you can convince yourself it is not what you want. Give it a shot, will you. And if it does not work, then we can try something else.

You can attempt to handle quitting smoking in the same way as you would handle being on a diet. When you are so hungry for a stick of cigarette to smoke, get into doing something else? or eating something that would not quite have the same harmful effects. You’d be surprised how many Americans have found success this way.

When next you feel like smoking, sit down and tell yourself ‘no, you will not do it.’ It is a practical thing that helps your mind overcome the subconscious instinct to take a drag. And believe me, when you have done this for a whole week, you would feel like you could move a mountain. And why not, you just did precisely that anyway. Bye-bye to cigarettes,

Smoking is something that a lot of people are not aware to be dangerous to their health. I must sound like I’m ranting, but it might interest you to know that not a lot of folks pay too much attention to the notices after the commercials. If you could launch an awareness campaign for the harmful effects of the habit, you would be helping millions of Americans who cannot seem to get away from doing that nasty thing.

Every time I watch a movie in which I see someone drag on a stick of cigarette, I feel like going out and getting one myself. But since I told myself I was never going back to that habit, I have been changing the channel. I think we all could use a little help like that; anything to not think about it.
