People who find it difficult to keep off of the cigarette do not really desire to. Of course, they are addicted, but if they got themselves to a place where they couldn’t reach a cigarette easily, it might work for them. One of the most clear and present dangers for smokers trying to quit is relapsing. You could have gone completely without smoking for weeks, months even, but if you suddenly gave in to the urge again, you could find yourself worse off than before. So, try to quit first, and then try not to go back to it.
